Iecava is located in the central part of Latvia, where meet the plain of Zemgale,
sandy lowland and gentleness of Midland of Latvia.The area lies in the northen part of Bauska District, it surrounded by Code, Dāviņi, Mežotne, Stelpe, Vecumnieki communities and Sidrabene community of Jelgava District, Baldone rural territory of Rīga District and Olaine community.



Total area is 311,6 km².

Population (01.01.2008.) is 9681.

The territory of community consists of several settlements: Iecava, Dartija, Zālīte, Zorģi, Rosme, Dzimtmisa, Misa.

The administrative centre – Iecava is located about 21 km from Bauska, 30 km from Jelgava and 45 km from Riga. In Iecava more than 60% of people are inhabitants of area. Iecava is the centre of social and culture life, here are available the most important social services.

In length of 30 km the area is crossed by the river Iecava that is the right bank confluent of the river Lielupe. The river Iecava flows in the narrow vale which gets deeper and has about 25 m high banks - rocks of red dolomite detrition during its 15 km long flow through Iecava area.

From north towards south direction motorway Rīga – Bauska crosses the area and this is a part of international highway VIA Baltica.

The territory is crossed by a railway line Jelgava-Krustpils which is a part of the most important transit transportation direction from east to west ( railway stations Iecava, Zālīte).

The geographical position of Iecava attracts to the territory new inhabitants and employers. Iecava develops and turns to an attractive inhabitation.
